Rollin' Like Sisyphus

Good Music Friday

Posted in Good Music Friday by Huckleberry on December 5, 2014

Workin’ for the weekend is what makes my White Privilege better than yours.
Since most of the week got washed away by rainstorms California isn’t ever supposed to have again, this weekend is packed wall-to-wall with me playing catch-up; all the Christmas stuff needs to go up both inside and out, the grounds need to be tended since the leaves are finally beginning to fall, the lawn that my state and city governments wants me to let die because of the drought and so they can ticket me for a dead lawn needs to be reseeded; it just never ends.
Imagine if I lived somewhere I actually wanted to be.
Look out, now.
Along that line, from Thanksgiving through the holidays is my favorite time for imbibing quality spirits – this is the time where I go through the liquor, see what’s good, what’s not so good, what needs to be topped off and what needs to be discarded (a lot of gifts of alcohol can go quite wrong – once received a bottle of kahlua, and almost took it as an insult).
So here’s my favorite drink recipe.

Huck’s Bourbon Warmer

Pull down a bottle of Russell’s, Maker’s 46 or 1792.
Pour stoutly into a sturdy Old Fashioned glass
Enjoy.
What?
You don’t chase perfection with throwing a bunch of shit in the mix.
Also, since it’s the season, we’re going to be doing Christmas songs clear through the holidays.
This one is a classic.
Have a great weekend and get ‘em in.

ACDC is one of those bands who, in the post-Scott era anyway, could make 20 albums that sounded exactly the same* and yet were all worth listening to. Boston pulled it off for what, 2 albums? Hootie for 1? While Dirty Deeds was the first album I ever bought in vinyl, I still enjoyed For Those About to Rock even more, especially when the first riff of Razor’s Edge whisked me back to 9th grade again.

    * by which I mean that 3 notes into the first song, you knew the band

And the whiskey tonight is Windsor Canadian. Because when you’re just mixing it with PowerAid Zero, there’s no sense in paying more that $15 a half gallon.

One of my favorites is an interview Angus Young gave right around the release of Ballbreaker where the interviewer, who obviously wasn’t a fan, huffed “Critics say you have 15 albums that all sound the same. Have you guys ever considered going in another direction?”
To which Angus responded “That’s absolutely not true at all. We have 16 albums that all sound the same.” and left it at that.
To be fair, also, the Bon Scott era also sounded all kind of the same, since most albums had some version of The Jack on it.
